Why Summer Is the Perfect Time for a Health Reset
Simple wellness tips for busy women
July 18, 2026
Summer often brings a change of pace. Between vacations, family activities, shifting schedules, and longer days, our usual routines can easily get off track.
As a primary care physician with a special interest in women's health and preventive care, I often remind patients that health doesn't require perfection. In fact, summer can be the perfect time to pause, reflect, and gently reset.
Whether you're juggling work, family, or both, these evidence-based wellness tips can help you feel stronger, more energized, and more balanced this season.
Why Summer Is a Great Time to Reset Your Health
Many people wait until January to focus on their health goals. But summer offers unique opportunities to build healthy habits that are realistic and sustainable.
Longer daylight hours, warmer weather, and more flexible schedules can make it easier to spend time outdoors, move your body, and reconnect with routines that support your well-being.
"The goal isn't to overhaul your life. It's to focus on small habits that create lasting results."
💦 Stay hydrated
One of the simplest ways to support your health is to drink enough water.
Dehydration can contribute to fatigue, headaches, difficulty concentrating, and low energy levels. During the hot Florida summer, hydration becomes even more important.
What to do?
Carry a reusable water bottle everywhere
Drink water before you feel thirsty
Add fresh fruit to water for flavor
Eat water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and citrus fruits.
🚶🏻♀️Find Ways to Move Your Body That You Enjoy
Exercise doesn't have to be complicated.
One of the biggest misconceptions about fitness is that every workout must be intense to be effective. In reality, consistent movement is often more beneficial than sporadic high-intensity efforts. Research shows that exercising in natural environments is associated with greater feelings of revitalization, more positive emotions, lower perceived exertion, and a stronger intention to keep exercising compared to indoor workouts.
Take advantage of summer weather by
Walking with a friend
Swimming
Doing yoga or stretching
Going for family bike rides
Even a 20 minute walk after dinner counts.
The best exercise is the one you'll continue doing.
For many midlife women, regular movement supports heart health, bone health, muscle strength, mood, and overall well-being.
📆 Don't Put Off Preventive Healthcare
Busy schedules often cause preventive care to fall to the bottom of the priority list.
Annual wellness visits, preventive screenings, and discussions about symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, sleep concerns, or menopause-related changes are important parts of maintaining long-term health.
Preventive healthcare helps identify concerns early, before they become bigger problems.
As a physician, I've seen firsthand how valuable proactive care can be in helping people stay healthy and feel their best.
A Personal Reflection
This summer has also been a season of reflection for me. As I work behind the scenes preparing to open Reliance Primary Care in Orlando, I've spent a great deal of time thinking about what healthcare should feel like.
Healthcare should be personal.
It should be accessible.
And it should create space for meaningful conversations, prevention, and long-term relationships.
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Future Problem Solving International Conference with my son. Watching students collaborate, innovate, and solve complex challenges reminded me of something important: meaningful progress often starts with small, intentional steps. The same principle applies to our health.
You don't need a perfect plan.
You don't need to do everything at once.
Choose one small habit and start there.
Ready for Your Own Health Reset?
If you've been meaning to prioritize your health, consider this your reminder that small changes matter.
Start with an extra glass of water. Take a walk after dinner. Schedule the appointment you've been postponing.
Your health deserves attention—not just when something is wrong, but every day.
At Reliance Primary Care, my mission is to help patients build healthier lives through prevention, personalized care, and trusted relationships.
I look forward to sharing more wellness tips and updates as we prepare to open in Orlando..
